FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers to the questions we hear most — timing, dust, wood choice, and what our warranty really covers.

How long does hardwood floor refinishing take?

Most single-home refinishing projects take 3–5 days: sanding, optional staining, and two to three finish coats with drying time between them. Larger homes or oil-based finishes can add a day or two.

How much dust does sanding create?

We use dust-contained sanding equipment and seal off the work area. It's not perfectly dust-free, but it's a small fraction of traditional sanding — no film of dust across the whole house.

Should I refinish my floor or replace it?

If the boards are structurally sound and there's wear layer left, refinishing usually costs a fraction of replacement. We give you an honest answer at the free inspection — including when replacement genuinely is the better investment.

Which wood species work best in Valley homes?

White and red oak are the workhorses — durable, stable, and easy to match later. Walnut gives a premium dark look; maple is harder but shows scratches more. Engineered hardwood is often the right call over concrete slabs, which are common here.

Can you match new flooring to my existing floor?

Yes — species, board width, stain color, and sheen. Extending a floor into an addition or new room without a visible transition is one of our most common projects.

How do I get an estimate?

Call (818) 481-1575 or use the estimate form. Photos help us respond faster. On-site estimates are free and come with no obligation.

What does the lifetime warranty cover?

Every installation and repair we perform is covered. If a defect in our work ever appears, we return and fix it — for as long as you own the floor. Ask for the written terms with your estimate.

Which finish products do you use?

We are a Bona Certified Craftsman and use Bona's professional systems — sealers, stains, and waterborne or oil-based finishes. They're durable, low-VOC, and the same products you'll see in our project photos.

Do I need to move out during the work?

Usually not. For refinishing you'll need to stay off the working rooms while finish cures; water-based systems allow careful walking within hours. We'll give you an exact timeline before we start.

How soon can furniture go back on a refinished floor?

Light furniture typically after 24–48 hours, rugs after one to two weeks depending on the finish system. We leave you written care instructions at the final walk-through.

Which areas do you serve?

North Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley — Studio City, Sherman Oaks, Valley Village, Burbank, Toluca Lake, Encino — plus the Westside and the coast: Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Brentwood, and the neighborhoods in between. See service areas.
